Democrats Want Anti-Monopoly Action Against Big Turkey But Not Against Big Tech?

There are some things you see, or read, that make you do a double take. There are others so stunning that you are simply left speechless. One such thing happened this week as Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) made a formal request to the Justice Department to open anti-monopoly hearings against the five largest meat packing companies.

Yep you heard that right, we have "big oil," "big pharma," and now we have "big chicken." Ok, they used the word "poultry," but that did not sound as fun.

So, the entire economy in inflating, the supply chain issues are causing no end of havoc, we are all waiting for the bang at the end of this inflation that leads to a major depression, and yet the key thing that Senator Warren takes away is that we need to make Thanksgiving more affordable for the public at large? How about gas to get to work? How about car parts necessary for repairs to get us back and forth to work? How about our utility bills that continue to climb higher and higher? What about our insurance rates that just keep going up as their costs increase to run their businesses?

How about the fact that I cannot get a PS5 while Pete Buttigieg goes on paternity leave while in the middle of the transportation crisis. I mean, neither him nor his husband ACTUALLY gave birth.

But I digress.

Fox New reports that Senator Warren stated, "Given the apparent connection between rising poultry prices for consumers and the history of anticompetitive practices in the poultry industry, I ask that you open a broad investigation into the impact of price-fixing, wage-fixing, and consolidation in the poultry industry on consumers and farmers."

Wow, I mean, insert social media in place of the word poultry above and now you get something that will enact meaningful change. Social Media conglomerates are eviscerating our free speech rights at every turn, but the Democrats are blocking every meaningful attempt to change that.

No, this is nothing more than grandstanding over a holiday to deflect blame for the fact that her party has single handedly wrecked the economy. The price of EVERYTHING is up Senator, why are you not investigating that? Why are you not investigating the events that led up to this economic disaster instead of simply attempting to state, "profits bad, companies evil, me know, me no dum dum."

It never ceases to amaze me how out of touch with reality these people can be. Companies ARE NOT going to shrink their profit margins. PERIOD.

And no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that.

According to NPR: The Farm Bureau reports that the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people is up 14% over last year, averaging at $53.31.

Also from NPR: The Farm Bureau's calculations include turkey, stuffing mix, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee and milk, with enough for leftovers. The turkey itself costs 24% more than last year, the group says; it's $23.99 for a 16-pound turkey.

USA Today notes: Last year's meal was the cheapest in more than a decade as families skipped large gatherings and opted for smaller meals amid the coronavirus pandemic. But the price tag is also up 9% from a more normal-sized holiday meal in 2019.

Also from USA Today: Inflation is at a 31-year high and the price of food at home is up 5.4% over the past 12 months, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Nov. 10. The latest consumer price index shows an 11.9% combined increase in the price of meat, poultry, fish and eggs.

There are multiple reasons for the higher food prices, said Michael Swanson, chief agricultural economist at Wells Fargo, including supply chain disruptions, higher packaging and transportation costs, and worker shortages.

I hate to break it to you Senator, but these two outlets are hardly bastions of conservative thought in pretty much any way. So if they are calling it out, then perhaps the emperor truly has no clothes.

The reality is that she is only worried about it because she is worried that it is going to continue to effect the Democrats in the polls and at the ballot box. They honestly do not care how much your meal costs, theirs will be catered, all ten of them, with different groups, and the reality is that they are likely not even going to be the ones paying for any of them.

What do they care what the plebs eat.

After all, "let them eat cake."

No, no, the real truth is that they do not care. They just want to APPEAR to care. If they really cared they would be opening up the economy full bore instead of trying to muzzle businesses and creating havoc for the American people.

But this is what the Democrats do. They play parlor tricks and slight of hand. They get you to look at something flashy and anger inducing so that you stop looking at what they are doing right in front of your face.

It has worked for so long, that they feel they can get away with just about anything.

I truly hope that time has passed.
